European Roulette: The wheel, zero and layout

European Roulette uses a wheel with numbers 1 to 36 and a single zero. The layout groups those outcomes in several ways, from one number to broader selections. Understanding the wheel and what a selection covers is more useful than assuming a recent result predicts the next spin.

The wheel and the selection are separate

A European wheel has 37 pockets: numbers 1 to 36 and one zero. That distinguishes it from common American layouts that also include double zero. A similar casino presentation does not make those wheels identical, so identify the variant first.

Inside selections concern individual numbers or smaller groups on the numbered grid. Outside selections cover broader named groups, such as red or black, odd or even, and other layout groupings. The name of a group tells you its scope only when read with the actual rules.

Zero is not included as an ordinary red or black, odd or even outcome. It must be considered separately when understanding broader selections. The physical sequence of earlier spins does not establish a guaranteed next colour, number or group.

Three parts of the layout to recognise

Single zero

The 0 joins numbers 1 to 36 to make 37 pockets; it is an important distinction between variants.

Inside layout

Individual numbers and nearby smaller groups are represented on the numbered grid.

Outside layout

Broader groups cover defined sets of numbers, but their rules still need careful reading.

Why zero needs its own attention

A red-or-black selection sounds like a choice between two labels, but the wheel also contains zero. This is why counting only the two labels gives an incomplete picture of the possible outcomes. Look at the whole wheel, not merely the wording of a selection.

A run of one colour can be memorable without making the opposite colour certain next. Keep historical observations separate from predictions. If an actual table uses additional rules, read them explicitly rather than transferring conditions from another roulette variant.

European Roulette questions

How many pockets are on a European wheel?

Thirty-seven: numbers 1 to 36 plus one zero.

Is it the same as American Roulette?

No. The common American wheel also has double zero, so the variant must be identified.

Does zero belong to odd or even?

It is treated separately from the ordinary odd/even selections in roulette.

Does a long colour sequence make the opposite colour due?

Previous colours do not establish a guaranteed next outcome. Avoid treating a pattern as a promise.
